Sandra Bookman is an American anchor and reporter working for WABC-TV as a weekend anchor of Eyewitness News. She joined the WABC-TV team in 1998 as a reporter.
Not long after joining WABC-TV, Sandra was promoted to being a weekend anchor of Eyewitness News. Prior to joining the WABC-TV team, Bookman worked for WSB-TV in Atlanta, which is another dominant ABC affiliate. While she worked at WSB-TV, she served as a weekend anchor for nine years. In addition, Sandra has also worked for KFDM-TV in Beaumont, Texas, and WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina while serving as a weekend anchor in both of the stations.
Furthermore, for 7 years, Bookman served as an Olympic Reporter. She was also the only local reporter who covered the games from the Olympic bombing in 1996 to Atlanta winning the bid. Sandra has also covered the ’92 games in Barcelona, Spain. In addition, she has also been an international reporter, and after the release of Nelson Mandela from a South African prison in 1990, Bookman did a series of reporters from South Africa.
Bookman has received three local Emmy awards over the years during her broadcast journalism career. She received one Emmy award for her report during the aftermath of the fatal Valuejet Airlines crash in the Everglades. In addition, she received another Emmy award for covering the Olympics. Sandra attended the University of Texas where she studied journalism and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism.
