Ryan Hanrahan is an American Emmy-Award Winning meteorologist working for WVIT as a Chief Meteorologist on weekdays during the 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined the WVIT news team in 2005, after previously working for WNYT.
Hanrahan graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. Additionally, he also studied atmospheric science in graduate school at the State University of New York at Albany. In his time at NBC Connecticut, he has covered many of the state’s biggest storms including Tropical Storm Irene, the October snowstorm, Hurricane Sandy, the May 2018 tornado outbreak and the Blizzard of 2013 across Connecticut.
His weathercasts have been recognized by the American Meteorological Society with their Seal of Approval. Moreover, In 2016 he was awarded an Emmy for his forecasts and he also writes a blog, “On Ryan’s Radar.” He also volunteers with Special Olympics Connecticut and visits schools across the state talking about science. In his downtime, he enjoys spending his spare time with his Golden Retriever, Doppler, relaxing on the beach or on the slopes skiing.
