Ryan Baker is an American anchor working for CBS2 Chicago as a sports anchor on the weekday evening newscasts at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. and weekday Morning News anchor. He joined the CBS news team in April 2008, after previously working for WMAQ-TV.
Baker began his professional career after graduating and receiving his B.S. in Journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1991. Ryan worked as a reporter, producer, and photographer at WICD-TV for a year. He later moved on to WCIA-TV where he was a General Assignment News & Sports reporter and anchor, Public Affairs TV Show Host from 1992 to 1994.
He was also a sports director at WKMG-TV in Orlando, Florida (1995-2003) and was twice voted “Best Sportscaster” by Orlando Magazine. Baker hosts a weekly show with University of Illinois Head Basketball Coach John Groce. The show has aired on the Big Ten Network, Fox Sports Midwest, and Comcast Sportsnet from 2006 to date at Illini Media.
Baker is a board member with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northwest Indiana, active with the Chicago chapter of the American Diabetes Association, and volunteers his time and talent with various local charities. He also managed to serve on the Illini Leadership Council and was the 2013 Chicago Illini of the Year.
