Paris, Texas is his native home and from an early age, he had always been interested in news. He studied at the University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in Journalism. Prior to serving as the anchor of Good Day Tampa Bay, Rhodes was the program’s featured reporter. He has spent a number of years traveling the Tampa Bay area and getting to know the people here. Rhodes has served as an anchor/reporter for over 30 years and 20 years of his television career has been spent working for FOX 13. Over the years, Russell has worked at television stations in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Florida, and Texas.

In January 2009, Russell was arrested after an off-duty deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spotted a 2006 BMW 325i driving recklessly in a Channelside public parking garage that belonged to him. After being stopped by the Deputy, Rhodes gout down with his belt undone and his pants unbuttoned and he des appeared to be intoxicated. The Deputy stated that Russell has tried to walk away from him twice after being ordered to stay put and surrender his car keys. In addition, Russell was taken to Tampa General Hospital where the bruises and cuts on his face were attended to. Furthermore, Rhodes was charged with obstructing an officer without violence and was released Saturday morning on $500 bail.
