Royce Jones Biography
Royce Jones is an American anchor working for KDKA as an evening anchor at 10 p.m. He joined the KDKA news team in January 2020, as a freelance reporter.
Royce Jones Career
While working for KDKA, Jones covers a wide range of stories such as; crime, breaking news, human interest to the strange/unusual. Prior to joining KDKA, Royce worked for WTRF-7News, a CBS/ABC affiliate in Wheeling/Steubenville where he served as a weekend anchor and multimedia journalist. In addition, while Jones served as a weekend anchor, he wrote, edited, and anchored the 6 p.m. newscast. He also filled in for the 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Most notably, Royce covered the Buckeye and Mountain states inclusive of the Weirton Steel Basic Oxygen Plant implosion, two visits by President Donald Trump, Paden City water contamination, and the Ziegenfelder Frozen Treat Plant fire. In addition, he has also covered national stories such as; the Impeachment of President Donald Trump, The Tree of Life shooting, Hurricane Florence, and Hurricane Dorian. Furthermore, a number of Royce’s favourite stories include; fleeing the devastation of Hurricane Florence and helping dogs find forever homes.
In addition, while Jones was in college, he entered KDKA and his internship was through the Emma Bowen Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization for communications students of color. Every summer, Royce worked at KDKA as a full-time intern. Furthermore, during his internship days, he covered many; court, crimes, breaking news, protests for Antwon Rose II, the weather, the American Federation of Teachers Convention, and many more.
During his internship, his favorite story was the “Art of the Brick” exhibit that was held at the Carnegie Science Center. The exhibit featured many sculptures that were made solely by Lego bricks. He has also served as a fill-in Assignments Editor on a number of occasions while working at KDKA. However, his internship came to an end after he took a gid in the Ohio Valley where he served as an anchor/ multimedia journalist during his junior year of college.
Jones attended Point Park University where he studied Broadcast Reporting. While he was at the University, he served as an anchor, host, producer, and reporter for many shows on the school’s television station known as “UView.” In addition, Royce was published in the school’s online newspaper “Point Park News Service.”
