Royal Norman Biography

Royal Norman is an American seven-time Emmy-winning meteorologist working for 3TV as the chief meteorologist and can be seen at 5 pm, 8 pm, and 9 pm. He first joined Arizona’s Family in 1984 and worked for twelve years before later rejoining the station in 2001. 

Norman attended Arizona State University where he graduated with a degree in meteorology-climatology in 1984. After having graduated, he secured a job at 3TV as the weekend meteorologist and while working in this position, he earned an American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for both television and radio broadcasting. In addition, During Norman’s first 12 years at 3TV he; covered the eruption of Mount Kilauea in Hawaii, covered a tornado live from the station helicopter, attended 50th-anniversary services at the USS Arizona Memorial in 1991, was on the air as the under-construction Mill Avenue Bridge collapsed into the roaring flood waters of the Salt River, and he was on the original crew of Good Morning Arizona.

Later in 1996, he relocated to Atlanta together with his family and while he was there, he worked for WXIA-TV as the Chief Meteorologist. Royal enjoyed most chasing hurricanes while he resided near the east coast. Furthermore, he then rejoined Arizona’s Family in 2001, as chief meteorologist. In 2010, Royal was inducted into the Southwest Rocky Mountain NATAS Silver Circle. He was also honored by the Arizona State University College of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2017. Over the years Norman has been awarded 7 Emmy awards for his weather reporting.
