Flores is a correspondent for CNN based in Houston who has won several awards. She covers news in the U.S. and Puerto Rico as well as news from around the world for the network’s global platforms. Flores has been in charge of the network’s immigration coverage at the U.S./Mexico border, focusing on humanitarian reporting that earned her a spot on InStyle Magazine’s list of 50 badass women. She wrote a lot about the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, and the terrible fall of the condo building in Surfside, Florida.

Flores has helped the network cover the coronavirus pandemic by reporting from all over Florida and putting the focus on holding Governor Ron DeSantis responsible for his lockdown policies and the rollout of vaccines. She also told stories about how the pandemic affected kids, the jobless, the old, and people who didn’t have much. Flores was in charge of CNN’s coverage of the scandal in the U.S. Catholic church. She went all over the country to report on how clergy were being held responsible and even went to the Vatican to cover the 2019 bishop meeting on clergy sex abuse. In 2019, she also wrote about American deaths in the Dominican Republic, families being split up at the U.S.-Mexico border, and the shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.

Roshad McIntosh was a teenager from Chicago who was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer in 2017. Her study into his death led to the city’s investigation being reopened, and one of the officers involved was recommended for termination. There is a three-part CNNgo documentary about Flores’s probe called “Beneath The Skin.” An EPPY Award and a National Association of Black Journalists Award were given to the project for its great work. Flores thinks it’s important to cover news about criminal justice. “The Disappearing Front Porch,” her project, gave children in Chicago who are in the path of crime a voice. Guggenheim Center on Media, Crime, and Justice Reporting Fellowship was given to her in 2017.

From the pope plane, Flores covered Pope Francis’s trips to Panama for World Youth Day, the US, Cuba, Mexico, Chile, and Peru. While in the air, 36,000 feet up, two flight attendants got married without warning. She also went to Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay to cover Francis’ trip to South America, where he was born. Since she wrote so much about the Pope and the Catholic Church, the Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation gave her a Distinguished Journalist Award in 2018. Flores covered President Barack Obama’s trip to Argentina and the Seventh Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Panama. At the summit, the U.S. and Cuba finally shook hands after more than 50 years of Cold War competition. Flores also went to Cuba to report on the improvement of ties between the US and Cuba.

She has reported international breaking news stories like the 2017 earthquake in Mexico City, the 2015 explosion at a maternity hospital in Mexico City, the detention of five Syrians in Honduras who were traveling with fake passports in 2015, and the 2014 influx of unaccompanied minors crossing the southern border of the United States and then being sent back to Honduras. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Flores also wrote about the buildup to the 2016 Olympics. It took her more than two weeks to cover the absence of 43 students from Ayotzinapa in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero in 2014. The National Association of Hispanic Journalists gave her the Large Market Television Hard News Award for her work.
