Rick Ritter Biography
Rick Ritter is an American two-time Emmy Award-winning anchor working for WJZ-TV as an evening anchor at 5, 7, and 11 p.m. He joined the WJZ team in May 2014.
In addition to serving as an anchor at WJZ-TV, Ritter also serves as the co-host of Purple Pregame & Postgame Shows and he is part of the “Purple Playbook” Show alongside Super Bowl Champion, Torrey Smith. Ever since Rick came to Baltimore, he anchored the explosion that rocked a Northwest Baltimore neighborhood for which he won an Emmy award. He also earned an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Live Reporter.”
Over the years, Rick covered a number of the largest events throughout the city and in the region including; the mass shootings in Harford County, the death of Freddie Gray, and the EF-2 tornado that ripped through the Eastern Shore. Furthermore, Rick has served as the leader of a number of charity events throughout the year such as; “The Brigance Brigade” Foundation, and the station’s partnership with the SEED School of Maryland. Ritter also serves as a host for fundraisers for our fallen heroes and spearheads.
Philadelphia is Rick’s native home and he attended Widener University in Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. In addition, while he was there for 4 years, he played in the University’s football team as a wide receiver and he was chosen to play in a national all-star game in Salem, Virginia. Prior to relocating to Baltimore Rick worked at NBC in Fort Myers/Naples, Florida and he began his career at the NBC affiliate in Atlanta City. During his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their beautiful girls.
