Rick Maranon is an American Emmy-Award Winning reporter and anchor working for FOX 23 as a weekend evening anchor and a general assignment reporter for the Monday through Wednesday dayside shift at 5 pm and 6 pm. He joined the FOX NEWS news team in March 2014, after previously working for KVAL-TV.
Maranon graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 2012. Recognized as the Best Broadcast Reporter in Oklahoma for 2019 by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists, is an Emmy award-winning native Oklahoman who finds joy in reporting news in his home state. Specializing in coverage of aviation, politics, and government at both the state and city levels, he is an integral part of FOX23 News. His journey in journalism began as an intern at the Tulsa World in 2010, where he developed a deep affection for Green Country and Tulsa before fully settling in.
During his college years, he produced weekend morning news at the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism, he secured his first on-air position at KCBY in Coos Bay, Oregon. Within a year, he earned a promotion to the main newsroom of KVAL/KMTR, where he briefly served as a reporter and the main meteorologist for the NBC affiliate. Returning to his roots in 2014, he joined the FOX23 News team and has been an integral part of the newsroom since. Over the years, he has garnered multiple awards from various professional journalism groups, both locally and nationally, for his work spanning breaking news, severe weather coverage, and investigative reporting, including pieces delving into complex hospital treatment prices.
Notably, he was the sole Tulsa-based reporter to document the historic day in Roswell, New Mexico, on one of American Airlines’ last MD-80 flights, marking a significant event for one of Tulsa’s major employers. In 2020, he caught the attention of President Donald Trump himself on the tarmac at Tulsa International Airport next to Air Force One. His direct questions to the President earned him a wave, a smile, and a thumbs up. Tulsa and Oklahoma hold a special place in his heart, and as a native Oklahoman, he takes pride in providing historical context to the stories he reports.
