Randi Kaye is an American anchor and reporter working for CNN as a national correspondent. She joined the CNN news team in December 2004, after previously working for WCCO-TV.

Since she started working for CNN in December 2004, she has reported on both breaking news and in-depth investigations. In 2016, Kaye wrote about both Hillary Clinton’s and Donald Trump’s bids for president. Kaye reported Barack Obama’s inauguration as president in 2013 and was the news anchor in Washington, D.C. She also covered and led CNN documentaries about the search for British toddler Madeleine McCann, which went on for ten years, the LAPD’s search for Christopher Dorner, the Jodi Arias trial, and the Boston Marathon bombing. She wrote about both the shooting at the Aurora, CO movie theater and the attack on the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, WI in 2012. Kaye wrote from Arizona in 2011—the place where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot.
Her show also aired from Ground Zero in New York City on the day that Osama bin Laden was killed. Later that year, Kaye wrote about Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s doctor, who was charged with murder. Kaye spent three months in New Orleans in 2010 looking into the BP Oil Spill and writing about it. She was also in charge of Anderson Cooper 360’s live coverage of the spill. In 2009, Kaye reported on the death of Michael Jackson, giving fans breaking news and insider details. In 2008, Kaye went to Alaska to write about Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for vice president.
Kaye was on the air for five hours straight through the night during the 2006 Sago Mine disaster. She was still there when family members learned that only one of their loved ones had survived. In the same year, Kaye also got the first TV interview with the person who leaked the photos of the infamous prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib in Iraq. In 2005, Kaye did live reports from places that Hurricane Katrina had destroyed for CNN’s prime-time shows every night. Kaye moved to CNN from WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, where she was the host of the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. news shows and worked on the station’s investigation team. She wrote about Jesse Ventura’s race for governor and the arrest of Zacarias Moussaoui, a terrorist who planned the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Her first job in TV was at ABC in New York City, where she worked for five years with Peter Jennings, who used to be the host of World News Tonight. She finally moved to Arkansas and got a job at KATV, an ABC affiliate station there. There, she covered the Whitewater investigation and the death of White House counsel Vince Foster. Kaye also worked at WFAA-TV in Dallas, which is an ABC affiliate. There, she covered news and hosted Good Morning Texas.
It was for her CNN report on the black market sale of drugs used to treat infertility that she won a national Emmy in 2006. Kaye helped the network cover Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Gulf Oil Spill in 2010. These stories won Peabody Awards.
