Rachelle Murcia is an American Emmy Winning anchor and reporter working for KBFX as a weeknight anchor. She joined the KBFX news team in August 2015, after previously working for KGET.
During Murcia’s time at Delta High School, she discovered her passion for storytelling in her senior year speech class under the guidance of Mr. Jones. He recognized her storytelling abilities and introduced her to the world of radio and television production. Here, she realized one could have a rewarding career while having a great time. This revelation led her to graduate from Ball State University with a telecommunications degree. It’s incredible to think that she went from doing morning announcements in high school to reporting from the White House and covering local news across the country. Her journey began as an intern at WISH-TV, CBS News 8 in Indianapolis. She then moved to Kennewick, Washington, to become the weekend anchor and later the morning anchor for KNDU. It was there that she covered the significant Hanford wildfire, marking my first story with national attention.
Las Vegas beckoned next, where she joined the KVVU news team as the morning reporter and fill-in anchor. Covering stories like the white tiger attack on magician Roy Horn, Britney Spears’ short-lived wedding, and Michael Jackson’s eventful limo ride after child molestation charges surfaced were highlights of her time in Las Vegas. Following this, she joined the KOMO 4 news team in Seattle, Washington, for nearly seven years. Initially, she worked as the morning reporter and fill-in news anchor before transitioning to the role of traffic anchor. In 2011, she made the move to Bakersfield, working as the 6 p.m. anchor for KGET for four years before proudly joining the KBAK/KBFX news team. Throughout her career, she received nominations for numerous Emmy awards. Particularly for her reports on Honor Flight Kern County, and won multiple Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards for her stations.
