Priya Sridhar Biography
Priya Sridhar is an American Emmy-Award Winning reporter working for NBC7 San Diego as a political reporter and host of “Politically Speaking,” a weekly political show that airs on Sundays on NBC 7. She joined the NBC7 news team in March 2020, after previously working for KPBS.
Priya Sridhar Career
Sridhar graduated from Bowdoin College receiving her undergraduate degree in International Relations and History. Later she went to Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University for a master’s degree in journalism. She began her professional career at the NBC affiliates in Maine in June 2008 as a reporter. Here, she was solely responsible for the editorial coverage of Nothern Maine for statewide newscasts anchored out of the Portland NBC affiliate on the weekends.
Additionally, she also covered breaking news live on air and she wrote and posted supplemental web stories using pictures and videos. She was with the team for a year and two months before joining Russia Today in August 2009 as a correspondent and an anchor. She worked in this position for a year before becoming the South Asia bureau chief and correspondent posted in New Delhi, India in January 2011. In addition, she has worked as a White House correspondent and morning show co-host in New York City for Arise News, a 24-hour international news channel headquartered out of Nigeria.
Prior to NBC7, she worked as an investigative and general assignment reporter for the CBS affiliate in San Antonio, Texas KPBS in August 2018. Where she covered general assignments breaking news and in-depth features around San Diego, and was also a fill-in host for the station’s radio and television programs. Furthermore, Sridhar is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. She was selected for a direct commission as a Naval Public Affairs officer by the Secretary of the Navy.
Some of the most impactful stories she’s covered in her career include; the historic 2015 presidential elections in Nigeria, Missouri for the Associated Press and the aftermath of the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson. She is the co-president of the Asian American Journalists Association San Diego, on the board of directors for Military Veterans in Journalism, and was selected to be a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She has been honored and received the NATAS Pacific Southwest Emmy Award in 2021.
