Peter Alexander Biography

Peter Alexander is an American anchor and reporter currently working at MS NOW as the 11 am weekday anchor. In addition, he also serves as the chief national reporter and a breaking news anchor. Peter joined the MS NOW news team in April 2026, after previously working at NBC News.

Peter Alexander Career

While Alexander worked at NBC News, he covered the White House while serving as the White House correspondent. In addition, he also covered the president of the United States from December 2012 to March 2026. As he worked at NBC News, he was promoted to serving as the co-anchor of Today for Saturday editions in October 2018. During this time, Alexander’s reports across all NBC News platforms, including Meet the Press, Dateline NBC, NBC Nightly News, NBCNews.com, Today, and NBC News Now.

Furthermore, Peter worked alongside Kristen Welker from January 2021, as they both served as the station’s co-chief White House correspondent. Kristen was later assigned to serve as the moderator of Meet the Press, thus leaving Alexander as the sole chief White House correspondent.

Alexander attended Northwestern University, where he studied in its Medill School of Journalism, and in 1996, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. After having graduated, he went ahead to work at a number of local stations from 1997 to 2004. Peter worked for WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky, and also KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington, from 1998 to 2000. Later on, he joined the KCPQ team in Seattle, where he served as an anchor and reporter.

Prior to that, he was tasked with covering the 2012 Republican presidential race. In addition, Peter served as a national correspondent from the year 2014 to the year 2016. Later on, he was named as the co-chief White House correspondent working alongside Kristen Welker.

Not long after, Peter was named as the co-anchor of “Today,” a Saturday news program, in October 2018. He also became the sole chief White House correspondent; this was after Kristen was promoted to serving as the moderator of “Meet the Press.” During the week, Peter also served as a fill-in anchor for the three hours of Today. On March 28, 2026, Alexander announced of his departure from NBC News. He cited that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

After having left NBC News, Peter joined MS Now, which was formerly known as MSNBC. He joined the station as the weekday 11 am anchor. Later on, the station confirmed that he would also be joining the network as a breaking news anchor and chief national reporter.
