Born in Ohio, Marshall grew up in the Cincinnati region, where she cheered for Archbishop Moeller High School and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. She then attended Los Angeles, California’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she finished her first year of higher education. During her sophomore year, 2017, Payton transferred to Wittenberg University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in theater and dance. Marshall earned a second degree in Journalism and digital broadcast news from the University of Cincinnati (UC) in 2019. While there, she was awarded both the Matthew Woodside Scholarship and the Jim Knippenberg Memorial Scholarship, and she finished internships with WRTV6 in Indianapolis and WKRC-TV, in Cincinnati.
Marshall’s journalism career began at FOX 45/ABC 22 in Dayton, Ohio, where she worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor. Currently, she is the weekend morning anchor at FOX19 WXIX, which she joined in December 2021 and has spent two years since then. Stories that raise awareness of mental health issues are Marshall’s passion, particularly those that focus on first responders’ accessibility.
Marshall is proud to have won the All-Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award from the Press Club of Cleveland in the sports category. In addition, Marshall has won two awards from the Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists, one from the Ohio SPJ Awards, and she was recently nominated for two regional Emmys in 2022 for her reporting.
