Paul Heggen Biography
Paul Heggen is an American seven-time Emmy award-winning meteorologist who is currently working at KPIX-TV where he serves as the chief meteorologist. In addition, he joined the KPIX-TV news team in March 2020.
Paul Heggen Career
Heggen has been interested in weather even as a young boy lightning happened to strike a neighbor’s house when he was four years as he looked out the kitchen window and also witnessed while he was in kindergarten a tornado skirted his father’s home.
He was brought up in South St. Paul, Minnesota and after he had graduated from high school, he moved all around the country. Later on, he attended the University of Denver where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in geography, performing research into the effects of El Nino on weather patterns in the Rocky Mountains.
Furthermore, he later went ahead to join Texas A&M University where he earned a master’s degree in meteorology. In addition, before he joined the KPIX news team, he previously worked in Beaumont, Texas, Duluth, Minnesota, Huntington, West Virginia, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nashville, Tennessee, and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Additionally, he was awarded the American Meteorological Society’s seal of approval in 2002 and upgraded that to the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal in 2016. In addition, in his journalism career, he has covered everything from hurricanes along the Carolina coast to tornado outbreaks in the Southern Plains to blizzards in the Upper Midwest. As of the moment, he is happy to o cover the micro-climates of the Bay Area, and forecast weather right on the front lines of climate change.
Over the years, he has earned a number of awards such as; “Best Weather Anchor” awards from the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists, multiple “Best Weathercast”, and six Emmy Awards. In addition, he was named by the Radio, Television, and Digital News Association of the Carolinas as the Weathercaster of the Year 2019. During Heggen’s leisure time, he enjoys working out at the gym, running, bicycling, playing softball, golfing, and enjoying time with his wife.
