Paul Dellegatto Biography
Paul Dellegatto is an American meteorologist working for FOX 13 Tampa Bay as the chief meteorologist and can be seen on weekdays from 4 pm to midnight. He joined the FOX 13 weather team in January 1990, as a morning meteorologist before he was later promoted in 1997, to the chief meteorologist position.
Natick, Massachusetts is Paul’s native home. In 1978, he joined Lyndon State College where he studied meteorology and graduated in 1980. Later on, he joined the University of Rhode Island where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Geography, and Marine Affairs in 1982. He started his meteorology career preparing weather forecasts for clients of a private weather company in Ithaca, New York. Later on, he worked outside Boston with Weather Services Corporation where he assisted to develop USA Today’s familiar color weather page.
Furthermore, Dellegatto provided meteorological information for clients such as public works departments across the northeast, over 50 radio stations across the country, and the Boston Red Sox. Later on, Paul relocated to Portland, Maine in 1984, where he worked for WGME-TV as a meteorologist. Not long after, he relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he worked for 4 years as the chief meteorologist. In addition, Dellegatto has worked at WTVT since 1990, and he became the chief meteorologist after legendary meteorologist Roy Leep retired in 1997.
He is the longest-running chief meteorologist on Tampa Bay television and he was the first meteorologist in the country to show a number of spaghetti models that illustrate the complexity of tracking tropical systems. During his free time, he enjoys visiting schools and civic groups and talking about the fascinating science of meteorology.
