Patrick Wilson Insidious: The Red Door
Wilson plays the role of Josh Lambert in the American horror film Insidious: The Red Door. Josh Lambert hasn’t thought about what happened in The Further in 2019, nine years after he was possessed. His mother Lorraine died not long ago, and he is no longer married to Renai. His bond with his son Dalton has become tense. When he drops Dalton off at college, he tries to make things better, but they get into a fight.
Dalton draws a picture of the red door that leads into The Further in his first art class. At the same time, Josh starts to be bothered by the ghost of a man. He finally figures out that the man is his father Ben Burton, whom he thought had left his family when he was young. Dalton and his friend Chris go to a frat party, where Dalton sees the ghost of a student who is always throwing up. When Chris accidentally goes back into The Further, he shows Dalton a YouTube video by Specs and Tucker that explains how astral projection works. This video leads to a clip of Elise Rainier talking about The Further.
Chris is watching over Dalton’s body as he tries to astral project again. Chris is attacked by something invisible, and her screams wake Dalton up. He rushes back to his body and sees that it is the red-faced demon that tormented him as a child. Chris told Dalton to stop using his powers, and then his brother Foster called to tell him about a dream he used to have where Josh was trying to kill them. This makes Dalton remember. Nevertheless, he finishes his picture of Josh who is cursed standing in front of the red door. Dalton is upset when he is pulled into The Further to the time when Josh attacked them in the basement while possessed. When Josh tries to kill the younger Dalton, he gets tackled and is sent back to the red-faced demon’s home.
Josh starts to look into his father’s death and learns that he killed himself while being locked up in a mental hospital. Renai tells him the truth about what happened to their family ten years ago. Additionally, he tells him how his father could also astral project but thought the things he saw were caused by his mental illness. When Foster texts them a picture of Dalton’s painting, they know that Dalton is in trouble. Renai gives Josh the strength to go back into The Further and save their son.
The devil takes over Dalton’s body while he is locked up in his lair and tries to kill Chris. Josh finds Dalton and frees him, stopping the attack. The demon follows them to the red door, but Josh stays behind to keep it shut to keep Dalton safe. Dalton then goes back to his body and paints over his red door picture with black paint, which closes the real door and The Further.
Josh meets the ghost of his father and is led back to the real world by him. When Josh gets back, he agrees to have dinner with Renai and the kids. This makes it seem like they might get back together. Elise’s spirit meets him as he’s leaving and tells him that he has a great future ahead of him. Josh then drives to Dalton’s college, where he gives a painting of himself carrying Dalton out of The Further when he was young. This makes father and son get along again.
