Pat Battle Biography
Pat Battle is an American anchor working for NBC 4 as a weekend morning co-anchor of “Weekend Today in New York” airing from 6 am to 7 am and 9 pm to 10 pm on Saturday. She can also be seen on Sundays from 6 am to 8 am and 10 am to 10:30 am.
Battle was born and brought up in Jersey Shore, and she attended the University of Maryland’s School of Journalism in College Park. Battle has been serving as the station’s senior New Jersey correspondent. While working at NBC 4, she covered Hurricane Sandy and for which she won an Edward R. Murrow award and a National Emmy. Pat joined the WNBC news team in April 1996, after previously working for WCBS-TV where she served as a general assignment reporter for three and a half years.
In addition, while she worked at WCBS, she handled breaking news stories in the tri-state area. For her outstanding work, she became recognized as one of the best live reporters in the region. Over the years, Pat’s outstanding work has received recognition by many organizations. She has been honored by; the Girl Scouts of America, and the Jackie Robinson Cultural Center. For her work on television news, she has received two New York Emmy awards. Furthermore, the McDonald’s Corporation recognized Battle in 2008, as a Broadcast Legend in the fast food company’s Faces of Black History Campaign.
In addition, Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2010. She underwent surgery to remove the malignant cells from her right breast and the surgery was a success. She later documented her personal journey, and she broadcasted her story on “News 4 New York” at the end of October of the same year which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The day after she broadcasted her journey, “Weekend Today in New York,” also aired her story, and she earned two New York Emmy nominations.
