Nick Canizales is an American news anchor who is currently working for 12News in Beaumont, Texas. He serves as an evening lead anchor for the 5 pm newscast and co-anchor for the 6 pm and 10 pm newscasts alongside Claydra Rhodes.
Nick Canizales Career
Port Neches is Nick’s native home, and he attended Lamar University, where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration and Management. Canizales started his career at 12News as a master control operator and a production assistant in November 2002. He worked at 12 News for three years and later joined the KBTV news team, where he served as a weekend sport anchor for six years.
Later on, Canizales relocated to Waco, where he worked for KCEN. While he was at the station, he first served as a weekend sports anchor and later on became the weekday evening sports anchor. Not long after, he was promoted to the sports director of the station. Canizales worked at KCEN for eight years, and during that time he covered the MLB, NFL, NBA, and six college programs. In addition, some of the college programs Nick covered include the University of Texas, Baylor University, and Texas A&M.
Furthermore, a number of Canizales sports reports’ coverage includes the NCAA Final Four, World Series, Big 12 Tournament, Super Bowl, and College Bowl Games. After having worked at KCEN for 8 years, Nick returned to 12News in November 2020 as the anchor of the weekday morning newscast, 12News Daybreak. Not long after, Canizales was promoted to serving as evening anchor. In October 2022, Nick took a break from broadcast news, and later, at the end of January 2026, he rejoined the 12News team.
Over the years, Canizales has shown his excellence in broadcasting, and for this he has earned a number of recognitions. He has been recognized by the Wacoan Magazine, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, the Press Club of Southeast Texas, and Lone Star Emmy. Nick has also announced play-by-play for basketball, football, and baseball in addition to also covering Hurricane Ike in 2008. During his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family.
