Newy Scruggs is an American 12-time Emmy award-winning sports anchor working for NBC 5 as the sports director. He can be seen on weekday nights at 6 pm and 10 pm, and hosting Out of Bounds at 10:30 pm on Sundays. He joined the NBC 5 Sports in April 2000.
Wiesbaden, Germany is where Scruggs was born and brought up. He attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he graduated in 1994, and he serves on the Universities board of trustees. The Newy Scruggs Sports Broadcasting Scholarship was established for students who desire careers in the sports media in 2003. In addition, Newy has served as a broadcaster since 1992, and over the years, he has worked in Austin, Texas, Florence/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Cleveland, Los Angeles, and in Dallas-Fort Worth since April 2000.
Over the years, Scruggs has served as a color commentating on college football and basketball games, radio talk show host, television sports anchor, and print media writer. Furthermore, Scruggs is also known as NewDawg, a name he was given by his Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
