Nathan Thompson is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX 23 as a Sports Director. He joined the FOX 23 news team in June 2007, after previously working for KSWO-TV.
Thompson’s roots trace back to Oklahoma, where he attended high school in Bartlesville. Following a four-year stint at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, he embarked on his career in the TV news business in Waco, Texas. In 1999, he transitioned from news to sports, securing a position at KSWO-TV in Lawton. Over the next eight years, including four as a sports director, he extensively covered the sports scenes of the Sooners and Cowboys. His career highlights include being on the sideline for three OU national championship games, three semifinal games, and numerous bowl games featuring OU, OSU, and TU.
With his extensive sports coverage, he has not only reported on high-profile events like the NBA Finals but also the thrilling 2016 Western Conference Finals between the Thunder and the Golden State Warriors. Additionally, he also serves as the voice for the Tulsa-area Cox Communications high school football broadcasts on the YurView channel since 2013. In addition to following local college teams across the country, he finds equal enjoyment in cruising around Green Country, reporting on area games, and building connections with local athletes and coaches. His broadcasting career boasts numerous awards, including two Edward R. Murrow regional awards, over a dozen Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters awards, and three Emmy nominations.
He was recognized as the 2018 National Sports Media Association Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he indulges in watching movies and TV shows, and, whenever he gets the chance, he enjoys playing golf and basketball.
