Nate Berkus House

Berkus and Brent are coming back to their New York City roots. The HGTV celebrities showcase their newly designed NYC apartment, which they formerly called home, in the October cover story of Architectural Digest. Berkus and Brent first moved into the Greenwich Village property back in 2013, only a year before the designers got married, sold it in 2016, and then bought it back in 2021. They relocated to Los Angeles and restored a magnificent Spanish Colonial mansion after selling the apartment, which was again highlighted on the cover of AD in 2015. After three years on the West Coast, the couple realized that their family would always belong in New York.

After moving back to the city with their four-year-old son Oskar and seven-year-old Poppy, the couple settled into a West Village townhouse, but Brent tells AD that their Greenwich Village home was always “the one that got away.” As luck would have it, two years after the Brent-Berkus family returned to the East Coast, the new owners of their cherished Fifth Avenue apartment were prepared to sell the property. In August of last year, the couple made the decision to put in an offer on their previous house and sell their townhouse in the Big Apple for an alleged $13.5 million. The couple promptly started fresh renovations after relocating.

For the pair, the apartment’s charm is still very much there. In addition to resembling “an old Parisian apartment, with all the plaster and the French doors,” Berkus calls the house “a wedding cake”.
The kitchen has been remodeled with new marble countertops and an island, but the striking glass ceiling and bronze accents from their former home remain. The dining room, with its antique pendant light and mirrored wall, is just as striking. The family room’s side is lined with huge windows that provide a great view of the surrounding area. A large velvet rug also gives the room a warm atmosphere.

The main bedroom’s dark leather 1960s sofa looks great with the wallpaper featuring a forest pattern. Two bronze-fitted sinks in the adjacent bathroom are set up against a wall made of book-matched marble slabs. In addition to custom shelving made to fit the couple’s apparel, Berkus’s meticulous organization is evident in the roomy closet. With its rose-colored headboard and pink “mythical” wallpaper, Poppy’s room adopts a more vibrant style. Cloud-shaped lighting fixtures give the room a surreal feel. The colorful wallpaper of Oskar’s room features a variety of animals dancing, and a neon yellow sign with his name on it serves as an accent. The stars of the Nate and Jeremiah Home Project talked about how special it was to go back to their former house and make it larger so that their family of four could live there.
