Mike Lynch Biography
Mike Lynch is an American sports anchor and reporter working for WCVB-TV as a sports correspondent. He has worked at WCVB for over 35 years and he joined the station in March 1982.
Mike Lynch Career
Prior to Mike taking up his current position, he served as the principal weeknight sports anchor for WCVB. Lynch served as the weekly host of Patriots All Access, that took a took at New England’s NFL franchise from 1995 to 2008. He also served as a broadcast commentator during Patriots pre-season games. In addition, he also did play-by-play coverage for college football, New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. He also served as host of Boston’s College football coach’s show, Eagles Preview for 5 years that aired on Channel 5.
He initiated a weekly report that highlights the achievements of high school student athletes known as “High Five” in 1985. For the pas 35 years, many honours have been awarded to the segments for the continued coverage of high school athletics. In addition, Lynch is an important part of the yearly production of “High 5 Salutes Thanksgiving Heroes.”
He has been vote by the Sportscasters Association and the National Sportswriters as Massachusetts “Sportscaster of the Year” in the years, 1985-1991, 1999, 2003, and 2006-2012. Before Mike joined WCVB, worked at Boston’s WMRE Radio where he served as the sports director. In addition, he has also worked for WITS from 1977 TO 1983, before he joined WMRE Radio.
Furthermore, while Mike worked at WITS, he was responsible for the station’s Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox pre-game shows. He also served as the host of Harvard University’s football broadcasts weeknight sports talk show. Lynch began his broadcasting career at WLYN Radio in 1974, as a color commentator for high school football and basketball broadcasts.
The Boston suburb of Swampscott is where Mike was brought up and he attended Harvard University where he graduated in 1976, with a Bachelor of arts and science in political science and government. In addition, while Mike was in college, he kicked and quarterbacked for the Harvard team that won the 1975 Ivy League Football Championship.
