Mike Janssen Biography
Mike Janssen is an American meteorologist working for WGN-TV WeatherCenter and CLTV as a weekend meteorologist. He joined the WGN-TV weather team in September 2010, after previously working for WYIN-TV.
Prior to joining WGN-TV, Mike worked at WGNO-TV in New Orleans, WYIN-TV in Merrillville, Indiana, and WSIL-TV in Carterville, Illinois where he served as a meteorologist and reporter. He has his first-weekend on-air report while he was in New Orleans which was a few days before Hurricane Katrina happened in southeast Louisiana.
Janssen was brought up in Kankakee County and while growing up, his father who was a farmer had a hand in sparking an interest in him for the weather. Mike attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he earned a degree in mass communications. In addition, he also studied broadcast meteorology at Mississippi State University. Furthermore, Janssen is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He also holds the AMS Seal of Approval.
