Michelle Relerford is an American anchor and reporter working for NBC 5 as a weekday morning co-anchor for NBC 5 News Today from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. She joined the NBC 5 news team in September 2011.
Chicago is where Relerford was born and brought up. She attended Whitney Young High School where she graduated with a high school diploma. Later on, Michelle joined the University of Connecticut where she studied English and journalism, and while she was there, she intervened on the NBC Chicago’s Investigative Unit. In addition, Michelle’s first job was at WNDU in South Bend, Indiana where she served as a reporter, and later on, she worked for WEWS in Cleveland, Ohio.
Furthermore, Relerford has also worked for WHDH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Boston where she served as a reporter and weekend anchor for 4 years. While she worked for WHDH-TV in Boston, she received a local Emmy nomination for her spot news reporting. Later in September 2011, Michelle returned to Chicago and joined the NBC 5 News team as a reporter and fill-in anchor. While working at NBC 5, she has traveled back to Cleveland where she covered the discovery of three missing girls who were found captive in a home after over 10 years.
In addition, when former U.S. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. was released from federal prison, Michelle traveled to Montgomery, Alabama. She was promoted to serving as a weekend evening anchor in 2016, and for reporting in Chicago, Michelle received two Emmy nominations. Whenever she finds time, she enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at community events and hosting charity events. During her spare time, she enjoys spending as much time as she can with her family.
