Michelle Gallardo is an American Emmy award-winning general assignment reporter who is currently working at ABC 7 Chicago. She joined the ABC 7 Chicago team in 2004.
Michelle Gallardo Career
Prior to joining ABC 7 Chicago, she worked at Univision Chicago where she served as a weather anchor and reporter for a period of three years. She has had more than two decades of producing and reporting experience in local, national, and international news.
Following the Asian tsunami in 2004, she traveled to Sri Lanka and Thailand where she covered its aftermath. Her coverage aired on National Geographic’s Storm Stories series and The Weather Channel. In 2005, she was awarded the 2005 Telly Award for Best Documentary.
Mexico is her native home and she started her on-camera career in Mexico where she worked at Television Azteca serving as an entertainment reporter. In addition, she worked at Television Azteca from 1998 to 2000 and while she was at the station, she frequently traveled to the United States where she interviewed the top celebrities of the day.
Later on, she was able to secure a job at CNN’s Mexico City bureau where she freelanced. In addition, she attended Northwestern University where she was part of its School of Journalism. While she was at the university she got the opportunity to work at WMAQ radio where she served as a correspondent.
She also worked at GMTV (Good Morning Television) in London where she served as a production assistant. After she relocated back to the United States, she secured a job at Hearst-Argyle TV where she served as an associate producer, and later worked at Conus Communications where she served as a field producer.
In addition, she graduated from the Universidad de las Americas-Puebla, in Mexico with an undergraduate degree in international relations. Furthermore, she also attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, art, filming, theater, and scuba diving.
