Michel Smith Boyd is an American interior designer who is best known for being the host of Luxe for Less on HGTV which debuted on December 1, 2022.

Thibodaux, Louisiana is Smith’s native home and he attended Thibodaux High School where he graduated in 1992. While residing in New York City, Michel has managed to dabble in a little bit of everything. He has loosely worked as a retailer in fashion and took acting classes despite being rejected for modeling gigs. After trying to fit in for so long, he finally found himself in the Decoration and Design Building which is an entire world that existed under his nose.

He began studying interior design books and within less than one year, he enrolled in The Art Institute of Atlanta. During Smith’s sophomore year of school, he had taken his first clients and in 2006, he established SMITHBOYD Interiors. In addition, during Michel’s 15 years long career, he has garnered dozens of accolades including being recognized as one of the country’s top 10 African American designers by the Black Interior Designers Network in 2022.

Boyd’s work has appeared in many national publications such as; Vogue, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and Veranda, and his carefully crafted rooms have been featured in showhouses around the country. Furthermore, Smith has launched a number of bespoke collections such as; luxury rugs, artwork, home fragrances, and case goods. He has also made appearances on the Bravo design series Buying It Blind and on HGTV’s House Hunters and Rock the Block. In addition, Michel is also the owner of MSB Bespoke Rug Collection and MSB x1429Mfg, a collaboration with an Annapolis, MD-based company. He had licensed collections in 2022, with Left Bank Art and Verde Home.
