Melanie Hicken is an American anchor and reporter working for CNN as a Senior Writer, CNN Investigates. She joined the CNN news team in May 2016, after previously working for CNN Money.

Hicken is a CNN investigative reporter who has won awards. Her work has shown a lot of different things, from widespread sexual abuse in care homes to one of the biggest scams in history. It has also led lawmakers to take action and the government to look into it. Hicken and her longtime reporting partner Blake Ellis did a groundbreaking investigation into the secret world of government debt collectors. Their work won the prestigious Heywood Broun Award of Distinction and sparked lawmakers to pass laws that closed the loophole that the stories showed.
The two reporters have been recognized by the International Association of Broadcasters, the National Press Club, the National Endowment for Financial Education, the Radio Television Digital News Association, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates for their work on CNN’s coverage of guns in America. They were finalists for a Peabody Award. Hicken often goes on CNN and other radio and TV shows to talk about her findings.
Hicken worked for the Los Angeles Times Community News group before she joined CNN. There, she won awards for her coverage of local government and investigative stories. Hicken worked as a staff writer and investigative team at CNNMoney in March 2015. Additionally, she worked there as a personal finance reporter. Here, she wrote about retirement, consumer spending and saving, and problems affecting pensioners, as well as consumer scams ripoffs, and other stories that were meant to protect consumers.
Hicken worked as a computer-assisted reporting graduate intern at Thompson Reuters for six months.
