Matt Finkel Biography
Matt Finkel is an American Emmy-Award Winning reporter working for WVIT as a sports anchor during the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined the CNN news team in Apr 2019, after previously working for WDVM-TV.
Finkel graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.)/Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Broadcast Journalism and Finance in 2011 from the Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Whitman School of Management respectively. He began his professional career as a Media Asset Management Intern at MLB Network in 2010. His first on-air job was at the West Ohio Sports Network in Lima, Ohio. After that, Matt spent three years covering sports at WDVM-TV in Hagerstown, Maryland as a sports anchor and reporter from June 2016.
In April 2019 he joined NBC Connecticut in West Hartford, Connecticut as a sports MMJ and anchor. In 2022, he was named the Connecticut Sportscaster of the Year by the National Media Sports Association. Additionally, He is a 7-time honoree by the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists and his stories have earned him 3 New England Emmy® nominations. He has been recognized and awarded two Sports Emmy® Awards during his time at MLB Network and a Silver Telly Award for his work on NBC Connecticut’s Kid Connection. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing guitar, attending concerts, and golfing.
