Maryalice Demler is an American anchor working for WGRZ-TV as an evening anchor at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm every weeknight alongside co-anchor Scott Levin. She joined the WGRZ-TV news team in 2002, after previously working for WJYE-FM.

Demler was born and raised in North Tonawanda and attended Niagara University, where she graduated with bachelor’s degrees in both political science and French. She was also crowned “Miss New York State” in 1990 and represented the Empire State in the Miss America Pageant. Maryalice secured her first journalism career in 1993 when she worked as a morning radio personality at WJYE-FM in Buffalo as one half of the duo “Joe and Maryalice in the Morning”. Before she started her journalism career, Maryalice worked as a special projects director at DeGraff Memorial Hospital and taught middle school French.

Demler has not only reported from Rome, Italy during the Papal Conclave that elected Pope Francis and for the funeral of Pope John Paul II, but she has also done extensive live reporting for Channel Two covering such notable world events as the World Youth Day with Pope John Paul II in Toronto and Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, Maryalice also traveled to Washington, D.C. for the funeral of NBC Political Analyst and Buffalo native Tim Russert and to New York City to provide extended coverage of Pope Benedict’s visit, to Philadelphia for Pope Francis’ visit.

Maryalice served on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations for more than a decade, including Tonawandas’ Canal Fest, Kids Escaping Drugs, and Peaceprints of Western New York. Demler makes an average of over 50 personal appearances a year and is a highly sought-after featured speaker and entertainer. Maryalice has received several awards for community service including the Niagara University Alumni Founder’s Award and St. Vincent DePaul Award and the Business First’s 40 Under 40 Outstanding Community Leaders.

Demler and Scott Levin are currently the longest-serving team in Western New York and have been recognized for excellence for both regional and national honors by the Associated Press, Edward R. Murrow Awards, New York State Broadcasters, and the New York Emmys.

Demler is the first Buffalo news anchor to receive the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Journalism for her in-depth report “Prison and Persistence” in the competitive Crime News category. She also received two Emmy Awards from the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, in which she won the “News Anchor – On Camera Talent” category for a compilation of her anchoring and reporting work. Demler also received an Associated Press Award for Best Interview and over two dozen other nominations for her reporting work.
