Mark Tamayo Biography
Mark Tamayo is an American three-time Emmy award-winning meteorologist who is currently working at KTVU FOX2 News. In addition, he joined the KTVU team in Aug 2008.

In 1993, he joined California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 1996. In addition, while he was at the university, he was also part of its news department. Later in 1997, he attended San Francisco State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology in 1999.
Mark Tamayo Career
California is his native home and he began his broadcast career in Eureka, California where he worked at KVIQ-TV from May 1999. While he was at the station. he served as a morning meteorologist and in May 2001, he left the station. Later on, he relocated to Salinas, Steinbeck Country where he worked at KSBW-TV from June 2001 to December 2002. While working at KSBW-TV, he served as a weekend meteorologist. In addition, a Broadcast Seal was issued to him in 2002, by the National WeatherAssociation.
In addition, he has also worked at KRON-TV in San Francisco, California where he served as a morning meteorologist and producer of environmental reports. Furthermore, while he worked at KRON, the American Meteorological Society presented him with a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorologist in October 2005. He also worked closely with the Science Editor to create graphics that played a prominent role in a documentary that focused on Bay Area earthquakes.
Furthermore, he joined the KTVU FOX2 team in 2008, and while working at the station, he has won two Emmy awards for best weather reporting. His other Emmy was for his contribution to the Napa earthquake coverage. In addition, he has covered the weather at the station for more than ten years. Tamayo has played a role in breaking news throughout the SF Bay Area, the 2014 Napa earthquake, Oroville Dam concerns, and informing an expansive audience on significant events that include the 2017 North Bay fires.
While reporting on topical environmental events, he collaborated with organizations such as; the National Weather Service, Desert Research Institute, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, San Jose State University Fire Weather Research Lab, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (Hetch Hetchy), Save the Redwoods League, Marine Mammal Center, El Dorado County Parks and Recreation, United States Geological Survey, Sierra Avalanche Center, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He was among the project leads in 2019 to assist coordinate the first-ever Weather Education Day with the Oakland Athletics. They were able to host more than 2000 students at the Oakland Coliseum. During his spare time, he enjoys hiking, exploring a local beach, and mountain biking together with his wife.
