Mark Rivera Career
After he joined the ABC 7 Chicago team, the station’s News Vice President Jennifer Graves described him as a skilled anchor and a versatile reporter adept at covering everything from big breaking news stories to politics and feature stories. His first major live story at the station was covering the funeral and procession of the slain police commander, Paul Bauer in 2018. In addition, for more than three hours he anchored the station’s coverage of Commander Bauer and was honored by the city and its residents.
Previously, he served as a weekend morning news anchor and political reporter at WTSP-TV in Tampa, Florida. While working at WTSP-TV, he provided six hours of compelling non-stop coverage of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in nearby Orlando. In addition, while he served as the political reporter, he was able to cover Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton campaign rallies, questioned Vice President Mike Pence about Russian influence, and co-moderated a heated congressional debate. Furthermore, during the political beat, he reported on a wide range of stories from the hurricanes that devastated Florida to a family whose son is a 5-organ transplant survivor.
Furthermore, he also did work at WAND-TV in Decatur, Illinois where he served as the anchor of the two-hour daily newscast, as an editor, reporter, breaking news reporter, and writer. Additionally, he did win a regional Associated Press Award while working at WAND.
Crystal Lake, Illinois, is his native home and he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois where he graduated proudly. During his sparer time, he enjoys exploring, running, and going to coffee shops, and taco spots Chicago has to offer.
