Marcus Washington is an American news anchor working for NBC Bay Area where he anchors, Today In The Bay from 4:30 a.m. – 7 a.m. and the 11 am to 11:30 am newscast alongside co-anchor Laura Garcia. He also co-hosts, Area Race in America: The Conversation alongside co-host Jessica Aguirre at 11 p.m. He has been working for KNTV since July 2017, after previously working for WJZ in Baltimore as a reporter.
Washington began his career in media while he was still a student at the University of Memphis after receiving an invitation to fill in hosting Thursday’s 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. slot. He went on to work as a reporter in Nashville, Tennessee; Tulsa, Charlottesville, Oklahoma and as an associate producer in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, Washington served as an anchor reporter and anchor at WJZ (CBS) in Baltimore, Maryland.
While working at Charm City, he covered a wide range of stories, but his life and approach to journalism were most influenced by the death of Freddie Gray and its aftermath. Between Gray’s funeral, the explosive unrest in the city, the political strife, and the community’s rebuilding, Marcus reported live from the front and continued to do so in the months that followed.
