Luke Russert Biography
Luke Russert is an American author and correspondent working at MS Now. He serves as the co-host of The Weeknight, airing on weekdays at 7pm ET/4pm PT. He works alongside Michael Steele and Symone Sanders Townsend on the co-host role every weekday.
Education
Russert attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with a high school diploma in 2004. He then joined Boston College, where he graduated in 2008 with a double major in Communications and History. While Luke was in college, he worked for ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption. In addition, he also worked at XM Satellite Radio, where he co-hosted the sports talk program, 60/20 Sports, alongside James Carville for two years.
Career
Later in August 2008, Russert joined NBC News as a correspondent. He covered the 2008 presidential election’s youth issues. Luke covered the impact on the youth during election day when Barack Obama won. For this coverage, NBC won an Emmy award in 2008 for its news & documentary coverage of election night.
Luke has also worked for NBC News on Capitol Hill from May 2009 to July 2016. While at NBC News, he served as a congressional correspondent covering the House of Representatives. Russert had an interview in 2010 with Rep. Charlie Rangel, who was the then House Ways and Means Committee chairman. On the interview, Congressman Rangel stated that Luke was aggressive while questioning hm over an ethics report that showed Rangel’s fiscal indiscretions and illegal donation solicitations. However, he later retracted his statement and gave an apology to Russert, which made headlines.
In addition, Luke reported for NBC News in 2011, on Hurricane Irene. Later in February 2012, Russert joined NBC’s Dateline, and for his first broadcast, he examined the 1998 murder conviction of Jon-Adrian Velazquez. As a result, the episode received an Emmy Award nomination for Best Report in a News Magazine. Furthermore, he has also served as the host of The Briefing, which is a web-only show on MSNBC.com. In July 2016, Luke resigned from NBC, citing that he needed time to evaluate his career opportunities.
