Liz McGiffin is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working for FOX31 as a weekend morning meteorologist. She joined the FOX31 news team in March 2023, after previously working for NBC4.
McGiffin attended Liberty High School and earned a degree in atmospheric science and Meteorology from the University of Missouri and has covered TV weather in all four time zones (of the continental US). She began her on-air career as an intern at one of the local TV stations. Her first full-time position was as the morning meteorologist in Medford, Oregon, where she developed her skills in mountain and fire weather forecasting while providing forecasts for five distinct microclimates. She thereafter relocated to Springfield, Missouri, to work as a meteorologist in Tornado Alley, where she won her first Emmy. She continued forecasting severe weather in Columbus, Ohio, for every season.
Since she was a student, Liz has been actively interested in the American Meteorological Society. She has held positions on the Board for Early Career Professionals, the Board on Representation, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Diversity (BRAID), and the organizing committee for the student conference. Her dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the weather, water, and climate professions has earned her memberships on the COSMOS (Committee on Spirituality, Multifaith Outreach, and Science) and AMS Women’s Committees. During her spare time, McDiffin enjoys dancing and golfing.
