Linda Hurtado Biography
Linda Hurtado is an American Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter working at FOX 13 Tampa Bay where she serves as an anchor at noon, 4 pm alongside Chris Cato, and at 5 pm alongside anchor Cynthia Smoot. She joined the FOX 13 Tampa Bay team in December 2016, after previously working for ABC Action News.
Hurtado attended Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the University of Georgia where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in journalsim and political science. Linda also studied at The University of Georgia where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication and media studies.
Over the years, she has won 13 Emmy Awards, Associated Press awards, an Edward R. Murrow award, a Florida Bar award, Society of Professional Journalism awards, and a number of news and health stories. While covering in-depth reports, she has traveled to Cuba and Haiti, and during her television career, she has covered many hurricanes such as; Irma, Charley, and Andrew, a Super Bowl championship, and the Republican National Convention where she had the opportunity to have the only local TV interview with Ann Romney. In addition, Hurtado has served as the host anchor of numerous live events such as; NASA space shuttle launches, Gasparilla parades, and the Martin Luther King.
Hurtado is very much involved in the community and she has been a keynote speaker at numerous local events; the Hispanic Man and Woman of the Year awards sponsored by Tampa’s Hispanic Heritage, Inc and the Women of Influence luncheon hosted by the Tampa Chamber of Commerce. For more than 10 years, she served as the host of the local MDA Telethon, emceed the local, Dancing with the Stars event that benefits local charities, events for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Hospital’s Valentine’s Day event.
Long before she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, she had always been active with the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Her own mother was a breast cancer survivor until the disease finally took her life in 1995. In addition, she has been the local emcee for the Susan G. Komen events since she was diagnosed and recovered from cancer. Furthermore, she supports the Face of Courage non-profit as well as the My Hope Chest which funds reconstruction for women who do not have insurance. Each year, Hurtado donates proceeds to the Florida Hospital Foundation from A Shoot for a Cure to fund mammograms for women without insurance. During her free time, she enjoys cheering on her two high school-aged daughters at sporting events, volunteering at non-profits together with her husband, and supporting Tampa’s NHL Lightning, MLB Rays, and NFL Buccaneers.
