Leslie David Baker Biography

Leslie David Baker is an American Emmy-award-winning actor best known for starring in That ’70s Show (1998-2006),  Raven’s Home (2017), Still the King (2016), and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017). He rose to fame after starring in the TV series The Office (2005–2013)

Leslie David Baker Career

The day Baker received his callback for The Office, he had another audition scheduled. He got stuck in traffic on his way to his office audition, but the producers assumed he had been in the restroom and commended him for his patience. “By then I was kind of sweaty, my clothes were rumpled, and I was cranky,” Baker recalled afterward. I just let ‘er rip because the character was written to reflect how I was feeling that day. I received a call two weeks later saying, “You got the pilot.” He was a member of the cast of Office, which in 2007 and 2008 took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter questioned Baker in December 2017 in response to other former Office stars expressing interest in a revival of the show: “Why wouldn’t he return?!” Bustle stated that Baker was “plenty busy with his other creative pursuits” when The Office concluded in 2013, despite The Hollywood Reporter claiming that Baker has had few gigs since. To raise money for the creation of a pilot for Uncle Stan, a planned spin-off series of The Office that follows Stanley as he relocates to Los Angeles, California, to assist his widowed nephew Lucky in managing his failing motorcycle repair and flower store, Baker started a Kickstarter effort in July 2020. 1,640 donors contributed $336,450 to the campaign. Following COVID delays and the continuing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, the movie was shelved indefinitely. In August 2023, he released a statement stating that the money would be repaid.

In 2001, Baker had a cameo appearance as a janitor during the Ted Nugent performance in the third season of That ’70s Show’s “Backstage Pass.” The song “2 Be Simple” by Baker was released in November 2011 along with a music video that featured Baker (billed as “Black Hugh Hefner”) dancing with women wearing skimpy clothing while dressed in a bathrobe. Jan Chaney of The Washington Post stated, “Baker has released… a track destined to be the party anthem at all your yuletide throwdowns, for reasons that remain unclear.” The words of the song, according to Cameron Matthews, are “totally the daydreams of a middle-aged man in crisis,” and the hook is “infectious.”

Baker had brief roles in Scorpion and Life in Pieces before starring as Principal Wentworth in Raven’s Home. In addition to lending his voice to Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017) and The Happytime Murders (2018), he starred in the CMT comedy Still the King. He made an appearance as Hubert Danielson in the dark comedy Fired on Mars, in which he also provided a voice. He also starred as a farmer alongside Paul Lieberstein and Kate Flannery, two former Office performers, in a January 2018 commercial for FileMaker Inc., a division of Apple Inc. Baker appeared in several Honey Nut Cheerios commercials in 2020.

Leslie David Baker The Office

Baker plays the role of Stanley Hudson who works for Dunder Mifflin as a sales representative. He’s presented as a serious, often unhappy, and disgruntled worker. Stanley has a reputation for focusing on crossword puzzles during staff meetings and at work. His overall dislike of life and his work is another trait that defines him. In the series conclusion, he retires, fulfilling one of his life-long dreams.

In general, Stanley gets along well with most of his coworkers, but he particularly enjoys lunches and desk clusters with Phyllis Vance. Stanley, on the other hand, detests Michael Scott, his supervisor, since he frequently makes remarks about Stanley’s African-American background and clients. Stanley hardly confronts Michael head-on; when he does, it’s simply a poorly concealed dislike and disrespect. Teri is Stanley’s second wife. “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” features Melissa, one of his two children from a prior marriage, visiting the office. He suffers from diabetes. There is no similar character in the British original series; he is an original character made for the show.

Leslie David Baker Raven’s Home

Baker plays the role of Principal Montell Wentworth. In Season 1, he served as the George Washington Carver Community School’s principal. Octavia Kwan, a former student of George Washington Carver, took over as principal in Season 2. Raven is concerned about her twins’ failing relationship, but she also sees Principal Wentworth dismissing someone because of family strife. When Principal Wentworth notices that Raven is in the gym, she hits tennis balls, which causes damage to a punching bag and an injury to a teacher.

Nia chastises her, and Booker and Nia both reassure him that this will not happen again. Wentworth then suspends Raven from the school for three weeks, preventing her from picking up her kids, to emphasize his point. Wentworth notices Booker dancing as he is passing through the corridor and tells him to hold off until tomorrow, cautioning him not to even consider it. He beamingly welcomes Chelsea, who comes to pick up the kids and Raven, after the school day. Thanking Chelsea for volunteering for the school dance, he adopts a more formal demeanor with her. Raven volunteers as well after seeing this, and Principal Wentworth gives her the task of baking 500 cupcakes.
