Len Besthoff is an American reporter working for WVIT as a Chief Investigative Reporter for the NBC Connecticut Investigates team. He joined the WVIT news team in October 2013, after previously working for WFSB-TV.

Besthoff graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1988. He began his professional career at TV34 News as a News reporter in 1988. He then joined News 12 Connecticut as a news reporter in 1990, WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia, as a business and general assignment reporter in 1991, WRAL-TV as a general assignment reporter in 1997 and finally WFSB-TV as a reporter in 2002. Here, he was the Hartford Bureau Chief and member of the I-Team breaking several big stories, and receiving several awards for his efforts.
Additionally, he has covered major news stories on the East Coast and New England for 25 years including 9/11, numerous snowstorms and hurricanes, and major stories in Connecticut, including the arrest of Hartford’s mayor and the violence in Newtown and at Hartford Distributors in Manchester. Moreover, he also covered major employers in the Roanoke/Lynchburg TV market. Majorly, he concentrates on stories using data, records, and whistleblowers to expose waste, corruption, and wrongdoings. In addition to this, he advocates for protecting and improving our state’s Freedom of Information statutes and is on the board of the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government (CFOG).
These historic coverages have brought change and broken several stories with statewide impact including patient abuse at Connecticut’s maximum security psychiatric hospital, the state’s new “Next Generation 911” system, and glitches with Connecticut’s DMV software. Furthermore, he has also uncovered wrongdoing by elected officials and held public utilities accountable for their treatment of ratepayers. Besthoff was hit by an SUV in West Hartford while walking in the NBC Connecticut parking lot on Wednesday, May 4. He was then rushed to the hospital complaining of neck and shoulder pain after being hit by a Nissan Rogue SUV driven by New Haven County resident Gregory Massa, age 36, of Meriden. He said he hopes to be back to work soon.
