Lelan Vittert is an American Emmy-Award Winning anchor working for NEWS NATION as an anchor and national correspondent. He joined the NEWS NATION news team in 2021, after previously working for FOX News.
Vittert obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where he was a member of Theta Chi. Additionally, he participated in The General Course, a year-long study abroad program at the London School of Economics. Vittert, an Emmy award-winning journalist, has had an extensive career in news reporting. During the 2000s, he anchored weekend news in Denver, Colorado, and worked as a reporter in Orlando, Florida, as well as in various other locations. Some of these locations included; Little Rock, Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Madison, Wisconsin.
He gained recognition for his coverage of the Freddie Gray riots in Baltimore, where he reported from the midst of protests and engaged with residents and demonstrators. His reporting on the Arab Spring, particularly in Cairo’s Tahrir Square during President Hosni Mubarak’s departure, and his coverage of events in Libya during the revolution showcased his dedication to on-the-ground reporting. In 2014, Vittert moved to Washington, D.C., after spending time in Eastern Ukraine during the Russian-backed militias’ takeover. His experiences also include covering the George Floyd protests in Washington, D.C., where he and his crew were attacked by protesters.
Vittert’s tenure at Fox News concluded in April 2021, and he joined NewsNation as a national correspondent and anchor in May 2021. Later, in July 2021, he started anchoring a primetime show called “On Balance with Leland Vittert” on NewsNation.
