Lee Yi-kyung The Moon

Yi-kyung plays the role of Cho Yoon-jong in the South Korean Film The Moon. Cho Yoon-jong is a member of the crew who boarded the ship with Hwang Sun-woo. In the not-too-distant future, an explosion on board South Korea’s first crewed journey to the moon ends in tragedy. After five years, a second trip for people into space is made.

Koreans tried twice with Woori-Ho to send a moon exploration rocket into space. They wanted to be the second country, after the US, to study the moon’s surface for energy sources like Helium-3. Because they knew a lot about the subject, Lee Sang-Won (Kim Rae-Won), Cho Yoon-Jong (Lee Yi-Kyung), and Hwang Sun-Woo (Doh Kyung-Soo) were chosen to be astronauts for this important trip.

Due to his training as a Navy Seal, Hwang Sun-Woo had more experience than the others as a pilot, even though he didn’t have much experience as a pilot in general. The tech lead for the first mission five years ago was Hwang Sun-Woo’s dad, Hwang Gyu-Tae (Lee Sung-Min). Back then, the spaceship blew up as soon as it took off. Gyu-Tae was no longer living, but his son Sun-Woo wanted to do this mission to honor his father and come home safely.

As soon as Woori-Ho took off, something else strange happened. The satellites had to be turned off because of solar winds that had never been seen before. Moreover, the problem affected even the USA’s manned lunar gateway. The Korean team couldn’t get in touch with the three pilots who were out in space, getting close to Lunar orbit. Somehow, the pilots got in touch with them and let them know they were all safe. This made everyone feel better.

They thought they could fix the spaceship because Lee and Cho were looking at it from the outside. Since Sun-Woo didn’t know much about the technology, every little sound inside the spaceship made him nervous. Scientists found a leak in the fuel tank, but before they could do anything about it, there was a big explosion that killed Cho Yoon-Jong right away. Commander Lee, on the other hand, was able to hold on to his hatchet and not lose it in the blast.

Lee knew he wasn’t going to make it out of there alive, so he asked Sun-Woo to turn on the full system power one last time so that he could get in touch with everyone and get back safely. Sun-Woo stood there and watched Commander Lee open his hatch and escape into thin air. Lee’s space suit was already leaking, so he had no chance of survival. Lee had said that leaving his dead body on the ship would make it harder for it to move and land safely.
