Lee Cowan is an American Emmy award-winning anchor and correspondent working for CBS News as a national correspondent and substitute anchor for “CBS Sunday Morning.” He joined the CBS News team in 2000.

Salt Lake City is Cowan’s native home and he attended the University of Washington where he graduated with a double major in communications and speech communications in 1988. Lee is based in Los Angeles, Cowan and while in Los Angeles, he has conducted many interviews with a wide range of news and entertainment personalities such as; pop star Bruno Mars, First Lady Michelle Obama, tennis legend Billie Jean King, and comedy great Carol Burnett. In addition, he has covered a wide range of issues from the water crisis in the Navajo Nation, the nation’s public defender system, and childhood hunger.

Lee has served as a journalist for almost three decades and more than half of this time has been spent at CBS News. While working at CBS, he has covered; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; the 2006 conflict in Beirut and the 2006 tsunami in Indonesia, and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. In addition, he served as the national correspondent for NBC News, and he reported for MSNBC, Today, and NBC Nightly News.

Furthermore, he was assigned to cover; the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the crisis in Libya, the tsunami in Japan in 2011, and the campaign and election of President Barack Obama. Prior to that, Cowan worked for CBS News’ 24-hour news service, CBS Newspath as a correspondent, and CBS News as a researcher on CBS News Nightwatch and later for the “CBS Evening News” in Washington, D.C.

In addition, Lee’s reporting career began in local news while working for WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, as an anchor and reporter. He also worked for WWMT-TV, in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he served as an anchor and reporter. Cowan has also worked for KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, California where he served as a weekend anchor, and at NBC affiliate KIEM-TV Eureka, California as a news director and anchor.
