Lawrence Karnow is an American Emmy award-winning Meteorologist working for KRON4 as a Chief Meteorologist. He joined the KRON4 news team in 2016, after previously working for KPIX.
Lawrence Karnow Career
Karnow holds an AMS Seal of Approval and is a certified meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society, having graduated from UCLA. In 1986, Karnow started working at KSBW in Salinas, where he first forecasted the weather for the weekend before moving on to the morning newscasts during the workdays. He even covered agricultural stories from the Central Coast at one point.
Karnow worked at KPIX for 18 years, anchoring weather on the weekends and then the early morning news on weekdays before joining KRON4 as a member of the weekend news team. For his all-day coverage of the March 2011 tsunami that hit the Bay Area following Japan’s devastating earthquake, he was honored with an Emmy Award for Best Weather Anchor. In addition to visiting Bay Area schools on a regular basis while working at KPIX, the former substitute teacher would teach students about the weather and then feature them in his live weather segment on the noon news.
In 2015, Karnow developed his own app, WeatherScope, for the purpose of keeping users connected to various regions of the world. As of today, WeatherScope is the only cutting-edge mobile app that can stream live videos in breathtaking 4K.
