Laura Harris is an American anchor working for NBC 5 as a weekday morning co-anchor at 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. She joined the NBC 5 news team in September 2018.
Over the years, Harris has earned an Associated Press award and Emmy award. While working at NBC 5, Laura has covered many events including the Tokyo Olympics that took place in the summer of 2021. Laura lent a hand in beginning the childhood literacy initiative at NBC 5 Reading With You. The program encourages elementary-aged children to read at least one book every week.
Prior to coming to Dallas-Fort Worth Harris worked in Tampa, Florida where she worked at the ABC affiliate in the area. While she worked at ABC Action News she covered; the Tampa Bay Rays while they played the Cuban National Team in Havana, and President Barack Obama’s visit to Cuba in 2016. In 2015, Laura covered Pope Francis’ historic visit to Cuba. Furthermore, she also extensively covered the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016, and the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
In addition, Harris worked at the ABC affiliate in Charleston, South Carolina where she served as a morning anchor prior to relocating to Tampa. She also worked for CNN Sports in Atlanta, WNEG-TV in Athens, Georgia, and TNT Sports in Atlanta. Laura attended Georgia Southern University, where she graduated summa cum laude. For 4 years, Harris was a Division I soccer player and she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
