Larry Richert is an American anchor and reporter working for KDKA as a morning host from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. alongside John Shumway. He joined the KDKA news team in November 1988.

Richert graduated from North Allegheny High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from PennWest Clarion, which had several radio shows on WCUC and WWCH and he was also the announcer for Clarion football. The station redesigned its morning show in June 1990 to make it similar to a newscast. Alongside John Shumway, who managed news stories at the anchor desk, Richert read sports stories, made forecasts, and conducted interviews. Before transferring to KDKA’s “Live at 5” program, Richert hosted the morning show for four years.
When Bob Kudzma reduced his responsibilities, Richert took on a new role in July 1995, providing weather forecasts for KDKA’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. news shows. He took up the morning news hosting gig on sister station KDKA-AM towards the end of 2001. Richert together with John Shumway anchors NewsRadio 1020 KDKA, the home of the KDKA Morning News, airs daily from 6 to 9 AM.
Additionally, in 2012, he and his friend John Mowod finished writing the screenplay for the film Amazing Racer. Charles Durning, Michael Madsen, Jason Gedrick, Julianne Michelle, Eric Roberts, Claire Forlani, Louis Gossett Jr., and Daryl Hannah are among the actors who appear in the film. The film is scheduled for release in 2011. In addition to being a writer, Larry co-produces the project with John Mowod.
