Larry Potash Biography
Larry Potash is an American anchor working for WGN-TV as a morning anchor a position he took up in 1995. He joined the WGN-TV News in August 1994, after previously working at KOTV-TV.
Over the years, Larry has covered in-depth stories on science, history, religion, and more. Potash traveled to Asia in 1996, where he did a multi-part series on the culture of Hong Kong and its transition to Chinese sovereignty. During his daily feature, Larry’s World, he covered the offbeat, fun, and at times lesser-known facts behind a number of pop culture phenomena and television news-making itself. In addition, Backstory with Larry Potash is a series by Larry that premiered in October 2018. In the series, Larry explores the backstory behind a number of the most intriguing tales in science, culture, history, and religion from Chicago and beyond.
Over the years, Larry’s achievements in broadcasting have been recognized with 16 Emmy Awards including one in 2021, for “Backstory” which was awarded as the Best Magazine Show for his history program. He has also been honored by The Illinois Broadcasters Association with 13 Silver Dome awards including one in 2021, for Best Anchor in Chicago. In addition, Larry worked at KOTV-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma before he joined WGN-TV and while he was at the station, he served as a weekend anchor and political reporter. Furthermore, he attended Emerson College in Boston where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and Broadcast Journalism
