Kristen Welker is an American journalist working at NBC News, where she serves as the moderator of “Meet the Press.” She took up the role of being the 13th moderator chair of Meet the Press in September 2023. In addition, Welker is the first journalist of color and second woman to serve as the moderator of “Meet the Press.”

Education
Welker attended Harvard University, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree majoring in American history. While she was at the university, she interned for the TV program Today in 1997, before later graduating in 1998.
Early Career
Prior to Welker working at NBC News, she worked at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia. She joined the NBC 10 team in April 2005 as a general assignment reporter. Later on, she was promoted to the weekend anchor position. Moreover, she has also worked at KRCR-TV in Redding, California, and at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Later in 2010 was when she joined NBC News as a correspondent.

Prior to being the moderator of “Meet the Press,” Welker served as NBC News’ chief White House correspondent and as the co-anchor of Weekend TODAY. While serving as Chief White House Correspondent, her on-air broadcasts appeared across all MSNBC and NBC News platforms.
Kristen started her role as the White House correspondent in December 2011. During this time, she traveled both domestically and internationally. After their moderation, they received widespread praise from pundits and writers from across the political spectrum. Their overall view about the discussion was that they did not let candidates off the hook. In addition, it was also named the best debate of 2024 by Mediaite.
