Paul was a cheerleader at Russellville High School, where she received her diploma. After finishing high school, Kelley enrolled at Rhodes College, where she majored in English and communication. Her degree from Rhodes College is in hand. Additionally, Paul works for a political consulting firm and is also actively involved in fundraising for charities that support veterans. Before her spouse was elected to the US Senate, Paul started writing for herself on a freelance basis and concentrated more on her personal life. As Senator Paul’s “secret weapon,” Kelley Paul has been described by numerous political advisors as a “very confident person, very comfortable, and she complements [Rand] well.”
Though she acknowledged that it was a much simpler decision than choosing to run for the U.S. Senate in the middle of 2009, she played a significant role in her husband’s decision to run for president. Paul submitted an application to have her husband’s name appear on the South Carolina primary ballot in late September 2015. Paul stated in an interview that Bill Clinton was “fair game” since he had become involved in his wife’s campaign and that, although it may not have been just, “I think we all know that’s the way it is in politics now” in January 2016, following criticism of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for her husband’s previous relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

In an effort to increase support for the First Step Act, Paul met with senators and appeared in public interviews, including one on Fox News, in 2018. Paul claims that her husband Rand and father-in-law Ron Paul’s activism “opened [her] eyes to the extent of how bad our system is broken and how people are suffering through that,” enlightening her about the necessity of criminal justice reform. Rand Paul, Kelley Paul’s spouse, revealed on August 11, 2021, that on February 26, 2020, Kelley had bought stock in Gilead Sciences, a company that produces an antiviral medication used to treat COVID-19.
