Katie Thompson is an American traffic anchor working for WCVB-TV as a weekday morning traffic anchor and transportation specialist from 4:30 am to 7 am. She joined the NewsCenter 5 team in February 2017, as a general assignment reporter.
While working at WCVB, she covered the region’s critical transportation and commuter news inclusive of breaking news on infrastructure and travel. New England is Thompson’s native home and she was born and brought up in Kennebunk, Maine. Katie started her career in Boston where she served as a production assistant.
Prior to joining WCVB, Katie worked at WMTW in Portland, Maine and while she was there, she covered everything from politics to a series on the sustainability of a shrinking Moose population. In addition, she covered three Patriots Super Bowl wins and two Red Sox World Series. Thompson had previously worked at KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas where she served as a reporter, weekday anchor, and producer for 2 days.
