Kathy Vara is an American anchor who is currently working at NBC4. She serves as the co-anchor of the weekend evening newscasts which airs at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. In addition, she also co-anchors the weekday NBC4 News at 11 a.m and is a general assignment reporter during the week.

In 1994, she relocated from the East Coast to Southern California and served as the co-anchor of “Today in LA” which airs in the morning. Later on, she became widely respected for her versatility and journalistic integrity. While she has been at NBC4, she has been live for several significant breaking news stories such as the Chilean Miner Rescue, the Conrad Murray trial, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Columbine High School massacre, the North Hollywood bank robbery shoot-out, and O.J. Simpson criminal trial.
Furthermore, for Best Daytime Newscast she won three Golden Mike Awards prior to being part of the team that won two local-area Emmy Awards for Best Regularly Scheduled Daily Morning Newscast. In addition, she is popularly known for her dedication to organizations that promote Lupus awareness and education.
In addition, she was honored for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism with the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s Local Impact Award. Prior to being a proud recipient of the prestigious Hispanic Heritage Award from President Clinton and the Women of Courage Award from the City of Los Angeles.
While she was at North Texas State University in Denton, she served as a producer and host of “North Texas Scene,” which was a thirty-minute magazine program featuring college and local life. Furthermore, she interned at the Dallas NBC affiliate.
