Kathy Orr Biography
Kathy Orr is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working for FOX 29 as a weather anchor for the evening newscast. She joined the FOX 29 news team in September 2015.
Kathy Orr Career
Before Orr joined FOX 29, she worked at CBS 3 where she served as a weekdays forecaster at 5, 6, and 11 p.m, and for The CW Philly newscast at 10 p.m. Kathy has also provided forecasts at CBS 3’s sister radio stations, KYW News radio and 94 WIP. She relocated to Philadelphia in 1998 and she became the first female meteorologist in the Philadelphia television market.
In 1999, Kathy was named by the Delaware County Times as the Rookie of the Year. For her reporting and forecasting skills, she was awarded eight Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in the Best Weathercaster category. The Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association awarded her with their top honors. She was also named in Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly” issue as the “Best Weathercaster” in 2008. Later in 2013, Orr was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia’s Hall of Fame.
Over the years, Kathy has covered live hurricanes including Hurricane Ivan in 2004, covered live from the 2005 Super Bowl and 2008 World Series, and served as the official meteorologist of the Philadelphia Eagles. Kathy has also provided weather updates and commentary for ESPN Radio, CBS Radio, Sports Illustrated.com, and XM Radio.
Orr is a former board member of the American Meteorological Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology. She was also chosen as a candidate to receive the coveted AMS Seal. Kathy is a mentor for the American Meteorological Society’s DataStream Project and for almost 10 years she has lectured teachers in the field of Meteorology. Furthermore, she attended the State University of New York at Oswego where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology.
She also attended Syracuse University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and Marketing. In addition, Kathy holds the AMS, NWA, and CBM Certifications in Meteorology. For her “Orr at the Shore” series, the New Jersey Governor’s Office recognized her in 2003.
